On 5 August a regional court in Hargeisa, Somaliland, dismissed all the charges against Mohamed and Hamdi, who have been held since January on charges of “apostasy” and “spreading Christianity.” The couple, and others similarly charged, were released immediately.

Recently a Somaliland Senate committee called for Sharia law to be applied in apostasy cases.  This verdict is expected to bring negative reactions from society.

The charges followed raids in January and February, when police arrested Mohamed and Hamdi and others. Hamdi was allowed to keep their baby with her in prison.

Prayer Points

Somaliland Christians ask for:

  •  praise to the Lord for answered prayer in this verdict in favour of the defendants.
  • prayer for protection from those who oppose the release of the Christians
  • prayer for the prisoners, that they will recover from the trauma they experienced.
